Uncensored Interview with Author Ruthi Kight (18+ Older)

RUTHI KIGHT UNCENSORED QUESTIONS:

L: Do you believe size matters? The thicker the better or can smaller be just as riveting? (I meant the size of the book!)

R: That’s a
hard question to answer *snickers*. I guess it would depend. If it’s satisfying, smaller can be a good thing. But if the magic’s just not there, having it drag on even longer would be terrible. So, I’d have to say it really does depend.

L: Do you like it slow? Or do you like a fast? (When a story is straight to the point or when it builds.)

R:Hmmm….personally, when it comes to what I’m reading, I like it hard and fast. Give me the meat and taters of the story, don’t make me sit here scratching my head for hours. But when I write, it’s more fun to be slow and steady. *Note to others* Do me hard and fast please! J (Damn, I feel so dirty now!)

L: Is harder better? Or does it come easily for you? When you write a book that is.

R: Harder makes it longer for me to adjust. If I know the content fully, and I know where the story is going, it makes it easier. But, like with a paranormal that I’m working on, it’s soooo hard! I’ve never written in that genre, so it’s harder for me to adjust to the sheer size of the world.

L: So did you always know you’d be a cradle robber? You know when you started writing YA?
R: LOL! Oh man! You sure know how to make me blush! I love being a cradle robber! The young adult genre is where my heart has always been. When I was in school, I was always fascinated by how the mind of a teenager worked. So I studied them closely. I felt that I could embody their thoughts and feelings better than I could adults. But now that I’ve done some adult writing…I have to say, I’m loving it too!

L: So how old were you when you, well you know. When you decided to be a writer?

R: I was young. Real young. I’ve always kept a journal, since I was a kid. At one time, I seriously wanted to be a rock star. That fell through, obviously. But after my mother passed, I decided that it was time to put my big girl panties on and follow my passion for writing. I made a New Year’s resolution this year to finish a book…I’ve now finished three, so I think I kept it…for once!

L: When did you receive that first big, OH MY GOD? After your first review or when you finished writing?

R:The night I finished Knotted Roots, I had that OH MY GOD moment! LOL I literally closed that sucker out and made a HUGE drink (mainly liquor!) and celebrated with my bestie. We got sloshed. But I think the BEST moment was my first bad review. I know, weird, right? It was a grounding moment. Everyone should frame their first bad review…just saying! :)

L: Did it hurt the first time? How did you feel when you received a bad review?

R: Hmmm! I jumped the gun, didn’t I? Surprisingly, it didn’t hurt! I kinda like pain, anyway! LOL Bad reviews are a chance for us to grow, to learn. Without them, imagine what we would become?? Egotistical writers who know everything. The day I think I know everything, will be the day I need to stop writing ‘cause it’s a lost cause. But that’s just my opinion. :)

L: Would you perform orally? If you were given the chance to do a book reading?

R: I’ve never been a fan of performing orally. I suck (lol) at public speaking. I literally get cold chills and…sometimes…throw up! Ewww! I know! I don’t like the spotlight, at all. I’d rather just sit back and chill, blend in! Which makes me really question my sanity for joining this career! LOL

L: Where is your favorite place to do it? Write in bed or on your desk?

R: Neither. I’d rather do it on the couch. Where I’m able to mingle with others while I do it. My bed makes me sleepy, so that’s a mood killer. The desk is so…uncomfortable. So yeah, it’s the couch for me!

L: Who helps in getting your juices flowing? The Music, Pictures of Celebrities, or something else?

R: Music. It’s my livelihood, seriously. I have sooo many different playlists, and each one goes with a different mood. When I need a sappy scene, I use music to get me mellow and languid. When I need suspense, I throw on some rock and get pumped I have always loved music. It’s a part of my soul. People pick on me for the music I listen to, but I always tell them: Listen to the words, feel what the artist is trying to tell you. You’ll understand, then, why I love the song. Then they look at me like I’m a nut job and walk away. *Shrugs* I tried :)
